FileDate_Order

4. FileDate_Order (& WinFileSequ)

v.1.2         July 1, 2014       Freeware

FileDate_Order:

The following is a working program,(modified to work with Clipseek).

FileDate_Order (& WinFileSequ) facilitates the ordering of icons in desktop folders on Windows 7/8, and Vista when the window is set to order by Modification Time (descending).

Windows 7(8) does not allow re-positioning of icons in a desktop Window, by simply dragging icons from one position to another, - A feature available in every previous version of Windows!. Since it is MUCH easier to locate icons quickly within large desktop folders, if they are ordered by function and personal preference, I find this utility (containing 2 programs) is extremely useful. The program can automatically SEQUENCE the Date/Time stamp for each file (icon) in a Window. The program facilitates icon placement (i.e. moving icons), also offers substitution of link files for sub-directories, and can insert "Space" links for blank positions.

The program can also create "LOG" files (recording files & modification date/times) for each Window to allow fast export. Importing from LOG file will amend file-dates for all icons and reset icon order.

FileDate_Order detects an open Active window and displays a ListView of all files contained, ordered normally
by Modification date/time. In addition, a Status Bar control shows information about the currently selected
folder, which is the root folder for the Tree View. Note that loading might take a long time if an entire drive such as C: is specified. The program can operate in console mode, taking parameters which define the target folder (or file), (and also can pre-select operating mode). It is also possible to "Drag & Drop" a folder onto FileDate_Order icon.

If a Windows folder is active when the program is run, or if an explorer type program is showing a selected folder, FileDate_Order or WinFileSequ should pre-select the same path when run.

This program can alter Modification Date/Time for individual files, or selected groups, or entire folders. It can also automatically SEQUENCE
Modification-Date/Time (descending) for a group of files in a folder, allowing ordering of icons displayed in a desktop folder when the window is set to order by Modification Time (descending).

The order can be viewed if the "View" option is selected (or pressing F6). The Trig setting on the main display sets the number of icons displayed in all rows. (Set automatically if Windows folder is active before program is run). From the "View" display, the "Right-Click" menu allows a number of tasks to be performed. The program "Clipseek" (see above) can automatically detect if FileDate_Order is installed, and uses the program to amend Date/Time stamp.

The program offers many new features,  including incremental date/time modification to allow ordering of Files and folder links in a
"Desktop" Window (particularly for Desktop folders on Windows 7/8), or within a folder, to provide an ordered display.

WinFileSequ:

A special program is included, "WinFileSequ" to operate directly on the window, capturing each icon in the order it is displayed. "WinFileSequ" can be run from the main program when "F8" is pressed.

WinFileSequ can perform a number of tasks which are selected from the "Right-Click" menu.
These tasks include:

- Export to a LOG-File (Filenames, and date/time)
- Move icon(s) to a desired location (See help file)
- Insert a blank-space link
- Remove a blank-space link, (or all blank-space links)
- Exchange a subdirectory for a Link file (The original directory is moved to the -0-0- folder on the desktop)
